ALLKND

As ALLKND prepared to scale, it wanted to make sure it was building the right foundations for measuring impact: understanding the outcomes it was working towards, for whom, and what data it would need to demonstrate them over time.

“It was great working with Vicky and the ImpactLab team. She was excellent at breaking down the process, explaining why they ask certain questions, what data they're looking for and so on.”

Building the foundations for better impact measurement

ALLKND helps young Australians feel less alone, through peer mental health training, community volunteering and practical resources, including Cause Club, its social volunteering events, and Good Mate Training, an online course for supporting friends through hard times.

As ALLKND prepared to scale, it wanted to make sure it was building the right foundations for measuring impact: understanding the outcomes it was working towards, for whom, and what data it would need to demonstrate them over time.

Getting this wrong early would mean reconstructing the evidence later, under pressure, with weaker data.

ALLKND engaged ImpactLab's Foundations approach to fix that before scaling.

What ImpactLab did

The team worked with ALLKND to develop and validate its intervention logic, drawing on the organisation's existing data and relevant academic research to test the links between its activities and intended outcomes.

From this, ImpactLab gave ALLKND practical, specific recommendations on what data to collect as its programs grow.

What ALLKND can do now

ALLKND can now design its data collection around the outcomes that matter, instead of guessing. That means:

  • A measurement approach designed to build stronger evidence as the organisation scales, rather than trying to reconstruct it later
  • A clear line from activity to outcome to proof, for funders and its own decision-making
  • A foundation that can later be combined with independent research and broader social and economic evidence as ALLKND's own program data grows

As ALLKND's Milly Bannister put it:

“It was great working with Vicky and the ImpactLab team. She was excellent at breaking down the process, explaining why they ask certain questions, what data they're looking for and so on.”
